Summary: Companies large and small agree that the social networking and collaboration tools on the market are great in theory but difficult to implement. And yet, do we succeed at getting the right information at the moment of need. His successes and lessons learned cover large and small scale applications emphasizing user friendly, practical low cost resources that may be quickly adopted. Please join us for a ground level view of collaboration!
Speaker: Rich Hoeg, Head of Collaboration Services in Honeywell IT (written by Rich) My Honeywell career has followed the rise of the micro-computer and the world wide web. Back in the 1980's I started Honeywell's computer training program. In the 1990's I built some of Honeywell's first internal and external web services, and now in the new century after having built Honeywell's eLearning and virtual library portal, I am focusing upon knowledge collaboration / sharing tools for Honeywell. In summation, I am trying to build the "virtual water cooler"! Some of my recent projects include the creation of internal engineering blogs, wikis, a social network / tagging engine, and a technology podcast. On most of these same systems I also have extensive content development and product admin knowledge.

Portfolio Careers
by Janet Linkert, Career Enhancement Chair
Recently, I attended a presentation by Anne Pryor, a Social Media & Career Consultant with Career Partners International, about Portfolio Careers. Anne is happily living her own Portfolio Career, which she calls her Freedom Plan, and had a lot of good things to say for someone who might be in a position to consider formulating such a life. It occurred to me, during this trying time, with so many of our membership looking for that "next great opportunity", the option of crafting a Portfolio Career might just appeal to some of you. All you would need is an awareness of such a growing trend, and to be pointed in the direction of resources where you could learn more. That is my aim in sharing this idea with you.
